God Can Lead Us through Our Plans

Proverbs 16:9 The heart of a man plans his way,
But YHWH establishes his steps.

Every decision that you make has an impact on our future. You life today is the result of decisions you made in the past. If you altered just one decision, no matter how small, your life would turn out that much differently.

Unfortunately, we do not know the future enough to accurately predict every possible outcome of our choices. As finite beings, we can never take into account every single factor into consideration when making a decision. Fortunately, we Christians are not left to ourselves. Although we may not know everything, we have a God who does. Hence, he is the one we must trust as we make each of our life-changing decisions.

Have you ever prayed regarding a certain decision, asking the Lord to lead you, but you never received an audible reply or a feeling in your gut telling you which decision to make? Some Christians think that they are unable to “hear God” because they do not have a good relationship with God. However, that is simply not true. You see, God is not so small that he is limited to leading you by an audible voice or a gut feeling; he is big enough such that he can even lead you through your decisions!

Every decision we make ultimately depends on God for its outcome. This means that all our “good” decisions resulted in good outcomes only because God prospered them. God can also bring good outcomes out of “bad” decisions. As long as our choices do not involve immorality or wrong-doing, God would not be less pleased with us just because we choose one path over another. Our responsibility, therefore, is just to plan our way and make the decisions. The rest is, as they say, “all in God’s hands.”

So the next time you are faced with a decision, do not wait for God to speak to you or to give you a sign from heaven. Use your God-given wisdom and discernment to make the decision. Then, rest, knowing that the God who holds your future is the same who holds your hand.
