What does Jesus’ Resurrection Mean for Us?
Asher Chee |1 Thessalonians 4:14 NIV For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
After Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he rose back to life, and was seen by many of his followers (1 Cor. 15:5–7). However, Jesus’ resurrection is more than just a supernatural miracle for us to be impressed at—our entire Christian faith is based on it (1 Cor. 15:14)!
When Jesus rose from death back to life, he gave us a confidence that as long as we trust in him, death will not be the end for us, because one day, when he comes back, he will raise us from death, and we will have bodies that will never again be subject to death and decay (1 Cor. 15:52–53). This is why Jesus promised, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” (John 11:25–26 ESV)
This means that we do not need to worry about this life that we are currently living. Even if we have to live in broken bodies or endure difficulties, we can still be happy and content. Eventually, this life will end, together with all this pain and suffering. Then, when Jesus comes back, he will raise us from death, and we will live with him forever—and that is a very long time (1 Thess. 4:17)!
