Must Holy Communion be “Often”?

The idea that Christians should take the Holy Communion often comes from a mistaken reading of 1 Corinthians 11:25:

In the same way also [Jesus] took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” (ESV)

Notice that Jesus did not say, “Do this often.” Rather, he said, “Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” The expression “as often as” does not suggest frequency. Rather, it simply means that whenever we drink of the cup, we should do it in remembrance of Jesus.
